Ed Harris Says He Wanted to Quit Dutton Ranch Over Limited Role

Ed Harris has revealed he nearly walked away from Dutton Ranch during its first season, saying he felt his character was underused despite being promised a major role.

Speaking to Variety, the Oscar-nominated actor said he was "ready" to leave midway through filming because he felt "underused and inconsequential." Harris, who plays veterinarian and military veteran Everett McKinney, said he had been told before signing on that he would be one of the show's four main characters, but that did not match his experience.

The 75-year-old also expressed frustration after a scene in which his character performed a song at a bar was cut from the final episode. Harris said the moment had been highlighted before production and joked that its removal made him want to "void" his contract.

Despite his disappointment, Harris confirmed he will return for the already-renewed second season, saying producers have assured him Everett will have "a little bit more to do."

Season 2 is expected to continue Beth and Rip's mission to rescue Carter while exploring the mystery surrounding the death of Beulah's son, Rob-Will.
