Chloe Fineman Reveals Details of Her Conversation With Lorne Michaels Before SNL Exit

Chloe Fineman has shared new details about the phone call in which she told Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels she was leaving the long-running sketch series after seven seasons.

Speaking to Variety, Fineman recalled that Michaels was attending the England vs. Argentina World Cup match when she called. "He was like, 'I'll call you back, I'm at the game,'" she said, adding that she joked he was probably supporting England because he has "very British" energy. Michaels later returned her call, and the two had what Fineman described as "a really lovely chat" about her decision.

Fineman officially announced her departure in an Instagram post, calling her time on SNL "the greatest privilege of my life." She also thanked Michaels, writing, "Lorne... I am forever in your debt," and praised the cast and crew who made her experience unforgettable.

Fineman joined SNL in 2019 as a featured player and became a repertory cast member in 2021. Known for her celebrity impressions of Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Coolidge, and Timothée Chalamet, she leaves the show as she continues to expand her film career, with projects including Freakier Friday and the upcoming comedy The Dink.
