Eric Dane's Final Euphoria Performance Fails to Earn Emmy Nomination

Eric Dane was not nominated for an Emmy in 2026, five months after his death from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The actor returned as Cal Jacobs in the third and final season of HBO's Euphoria. Although he was credited as a main cast member, he appeared in only a few episodes and was eligible for the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series category. Dane never received an Emmy nomination during his career.

Dane revealed his ALS diagnosis in 2025 and filmed all of his scenes for the final season in a single day. At the time, he said he believed fans would enjoy the long-awaited new season.

After his death at age 53, HBO honored him in a statement, calling him "incredibly talented" and offering condolences to his family and loved ones.

The final season of Euphoria brought back many returning cast members, including Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Colman Domingo, and Maude Apatow. The season received mixed to negative reviews from critics and viewers.

Series creator Sam Levinson also said the season served in part as a tribute to actor Angus Cloud, who died in 2023.

The 2026 Emmy Awards, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, will air on Sept. 14 on NBC and Peacock.
