Former Adult Film Star Emily Willis Awarded $3M Settlement After Rehab Brain Injury

Former adult film star Emily Willis, whose real name is Litzy Lara Banuelos, has been awarded a $3 million settlement after suffering irreversible brain damage during a stay at a Malibu rehabilitation center in 2024.

A Los Angeles judge approved the settlement on behalf of the 27-year-old, who is now permanently incapacitated after an anoxic brain injury left her unable to move or communicate consistently. Court filings state she occasionally opens her eyes or grunts but does not reliably respond to those around her.

Banuelos had entered Summit Malibu seeking treatment for ketamine addiction. Her lawsuit alleged the facility failed to provide appropriate medical care, leading to her medical emergency. Summit Malibu denied any wrongdoing, arguing she repeatedly refused medical advice and that staff had no legal authority to force her to seek hospital treatment.

The settlement resolves claims brought by Banuelos and her mother, Yesenia Lara Cooper, without any admission of liability. Banuelos was previously one of the adult entertainment industry's most recognized performers, winning the AVN Female Performer of the Year award in 2021.
