Former Miss Universe Jamaica Contestant LaToya Malcolm Dies at 35

LaToya Malcolm, a former Miss Universe Jamaica contestant and 2024 Miss Jamaica Bikini International titleholder, has died at the age of 35.

Miss Universe Jamaica announced her passing in a heartfelt statement shared on Instagram on Saturday, describing Malcolm as a valued alumna who competed in the 2024 national pageant.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Miss Universe Jamaica alumna LaToya Malcolm,” the organization wrote. “Our heartfelt condolences are with her family, friends, and loved ones. Rest peacefully, LaToya. You will never be forgotten.”

A Jamaican actress, television presenter, dance instructor and entertainer, Malcolm had more than a decade of experience in the entertainment industry. She was also committed to community service, volunteering with youth career development initiatives and supporting the Transition Project, which helps adolescents gain skills and resources for future opportunities.

Just weeks before her death, Malcolm appeared on TVJ’s Smile Jamaica, where she showcased her passion for dance. She later thanked the program on Instagram, writing, “Rise and smile! Early morning moves and smiles! Thank you TVJ Smile Jamaica for having me.”

Tributes have continued to pour in, including from reigning Miss Universe Jamaica Dr. Gabrielle Henry, who described Malcolm’s passing as “a great loss” to her family and Jamaica.

“To hear of LaToya’s passing is a great loss to her family and the wider community,” Henry wrote. “Her impact will always be remembered and her voice will not be forgotten.”

The cause of Malcolm’s death has not been publicly disclosed.
