Homer Gere and Kaia Gerber discuss family connection at The Shards premiere

Homer Gere and Kaia Gerber said they laughed about their parents' shared history when they first met before filming Ryan Murphy's upcoming thriller series The Shards.

Speaking at the show's world premiere in New York City, Homer Gere, son of Richard Gere and Carey Lowell, said he and Gerber, daughter of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, had never met before joining the cast. The two met with fellow cast members at a bar two weeks before filming.

Gere said one of them quickly brought up the "elephant in the room"—the fact that Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford were once married. He described the conversation as natural and said he and Gerber have since become close friends, calling her "a lovely actress and person."

Gerber also said she was happy to meet Gere and joked that her mother, Cindy Crawford, was attending the premiere. She described the casting as "such a small world."

The Shards, based on Bret Easton Ellis's novel, follows a group of Los Angeles prep school students in 1981 as they deal with a mysterious new classmate and a serial killer known as The Trawler. The series is adapted for television by Ryan Murphy.
