Jason Sudeikis Says Ted Lasso Return Wasn't About the Money

Jason Sudeikis says returning for a fourth season of Ted Lasso was not about money, despite earning about $1 million per episode during the show's third season.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Sudeikis said he originally believed the story had ended with Ted returning to Kansas City to be with his son. "The story was told," he said, adding that bringing the character back just for financial reasons "made no sense."

He ultimately changed his mind because he enjoyed playing Ted, describing the character's optimism and belief in people as rewarding both on and off screen.

Season 3 ended in May 2023 with Ted leaving England, while the stories of key characters including Rebecca, Roy Kent, Keeley, and Coach Beard were largely wrapped up.

Co-creator Brendan Hunt previously told Entertainment Weekly that the new season takes place about three years after the events of Season 3, with changes to the characters and their relationships. He also said he would be open to another three-season run.

Season 4 of Ted Lasso premieres on Apple TV+ on Aug. 5.
