Speaking to CinemaBlend while promoting Milk-Bone, Holland said Gunn likes having people he cares about on set during the long periods spent filming away from home.
"It's hard to make movies; it's lonely," Holland said, adding that Gunn enjoys working with the same cast and crew because they have built strong relationships over the years.
Holland, who plays Emilia Harcourt in the DC Universe and voices one of Superman's Fortress of Solitude robots, said Gunn is energized by being around people close to him, even though he prefers to write alone.
She also revealed that the couple's rescue dog, Ozu, inspired Krypto the Superdog's personality in Superman and Supergirl. According to Holland, Ozu's energetic and mischievous behavior helped shape Krypto's on-screen character, while reinforcing the idea that an imperfect pet can still be a good one.
Supergirl is currently playing in theaters as Gunn continues building the new DC Universe.
