In an Instagram video posted Monday, the reality TV personality, widely known as "Grocery Store Joe," said additional imaging confirmed a blueberry-sized lesion in his brain.
"They ended up finding a lesion in my brain," Amabile said. "There was a blueberry-sized lesion in my brain that looks to be a glioma, which is a tumor."
Amabile said he is scheduled to undergo a craniotomy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City in about two weeks to remove the tumor and determine its exact diagnosis through testing.
Doctors have told him the tumor appears to be in its early stages, and he expressed hope that it can be removed completely.
"I think it's one of those things where you're like, 'Oh, something like this will never happen to me'—and here I am," he said. "I hope they are able to get it all, and I'm fine."
In the post's caption, Amabile described the past month as "a lot of ups and downs" and said he decided to share the news because it has become part of his life.
"I'm doing my best to stay positive during this time and am lucky to have a lot of support from family and friends," he wrote.
Amabile rose to fame on Season 14 of The Bachelorette before appearing on Seasons 5 and 7 of Bachelor in Paradise, where he proposed to his now-wife, Serena Pitt. He also competed on Season 27 of Dancing With the Stars.
Following his announcement, Amabile received an outpouring of support from fellow Bachelor Nation alumni and friends. The official Bachelor Nation account, Wells Adams, Thomas Jacobs and Dancing With the Stars professional Alan Bersten were among those who shared messages of encouragement ahead of his surgery.
