John Cena says second hair transplant has ‘changed my life’

John Cena has shared an update on his hair restoration journey, revealing he has undergone a second hair transplant and is pleased with the results.

Speaking to PEOPLE at San Diego Comic-Con on 25 July, the 49-year-old said his newly shaved head was part of the treatment process. He praised hair restoration specialist Dr Ken Anderson, saying the procedure had "totally changed my life."

Cena said he returned for a second follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedure around 15 months after his first transplant to address a small remaining area of thinning. According to Cena, shaving his head allowed the doctor to implant hair follicles more efficiently, reducing the second surgery from 13½ hours to eight hours.

The actor first revealed his second FUE treatment in June, thanking Anderson and his team for supporting him through the process. He previously underwent his first transplant in November 2024.

Cena has been open about his experience with hair loss, saying WWE fans encouraged him to seek treatment after regularly commenting on his thinning hair. He now follows a hair care routine that includes red-light therapy, minoxidil and specialised hair products.

He has also said he regrets not having the procedure sooner, adding that stigma around hair loss treatment delayed his decision. Cena believes the transplant has boosted his confidence and given him greater flexibility for acting roles.
