Pedro Pascal says Reed Richards does not blame himself for Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday

Pedro Pascal says Reed Richards does not feel responsible for the actions of Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.

Speaking during Entertainment Weekly's 2026 San Diego Comic-Con interview with the film's cast, Pascal said Mr. Fantastic believes people are responsible for their own choices.

“Intellectuals understand that we’re all responsible for ourselves,” Pascal said, describing Reed Richards' view of Victor Von Doom.

Pascal explained that he approaches Doom from Reed's personal perspective rather than the audience's wider knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He said Reed remains focused on his own relationship with Doom, despite the larger crossover bringing together characters from the Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men.

Robert Downey Jr., who plays Doctor Doom, joked that Pascal's answer was “verging on filibuster” as the actor finished speaking.

New footage shown at Marvel Studios' Hall H panel confirmed that Doom comes from the Fantastic Four's home universe, Earth-828, rather than the main MCU timeline. The footage also suggests Sue Storm, played by Vanessa Kirby, knew Doom before he became a villain and believes personal tragedy changed him.

Downey compared Doom with his former MCU character, Tony Stark, saying both are brilliant scientists but took opposite paths after experiencing trauma. He said Stark became a hero, while Doom became a threat powerful enough to challenge Marvel's biggest heroes.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 18 December.
