John Leguizamo says Ice Age franchise helped fund homes and family milestones

John Leguizamo says voicing Sid the sloth in the Ice Age franchise has been one of the most rewarding jobs of his career, both creatively and financially.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight ahead of the planned February 2027 release of Ice Age: Boiling Point, the actor said the long-running franchise "paid my bills," adding that it helped him buy multiple homes and pay for his children's college education.

Leguizamo has voiced Sid since the first Ice Age film debuted in 2002. He previously said he earned only scale for the original movie but renegotiated his salary after 2006's Ice Age: The Meltdown became a major box office success. He later told Page Six that his earnings from 2009's Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs allowed him to buy a New York City brownstone and a Hamptons beach house.

Over the years, the actor expanded his real estate holdings, including homes in Upstate New York, Los Angeles, Manhattan and Amagansett. He also said the franchise helped cover the cost of his daughter Allegra's education at Northwestern University and his son Lucas's studies at Vassar College.

Beyond the financial benefits, Leguizamo said playing Sid gave him the chance to showcase his comedic side.

"It allowed me to be really as funny as I want to be," he told Entertainment Tonight. "I got to be so silly and create this incredible character and creature."

The upcoming sixth film is expected to reunite Leguizamo with fellow returning cast members Ray Romano, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah and Jennifer Lopez. "Everybody's coming back for this one!" Leguizamo said.
