Katie Couric Says She Experienced Transient Global Amnesia

Journalist Katie Couric has revealed that she experienced a brief episode of transient global amnesia (TGA) during the Aspen Ideas Festival on June 27. She shared her story in a Substack post titled A Day I'll Never Remember.

Couric said she suddenly became confused and could not remember the year, the month, or who was president. She also lost memory of several hours, including two panel discussions she took part in at the festival.

Her husband, John Molner, said she appeared normal while speaking on stage, but later an intern told him she was not feeling well. At first, he thought dehydration or Aspen's high altitude might be the cause.

Couric was taken to Aspen Valley Hospital, where doctors performed an MRI to rule out a stroke. They diagnosed her with transient global amnesia, a condition that causes sudden, temporary memory loss but is not linked to stroke or epilepsy.

Doctors told Couric that her memory would return within a day, and it did. Although she has fully recovered, she says she will never remember the missing hours from that day. She added that the experience was frightening but was grateful it was not something more serious.
