The former Bachelorette star, 35, said that being diagnosed with cancer changed her life. In an Instagram Stories post, she said she is "learning to dance with my ghosts" as she deals with the emotional side of her illness.
Katie also shared that she has been taking Wellbutrin, an antidepressant, for two months. She said she is now looking for a therapist she feels comfortable with as part of her "mental health glow up" this summer.
She also spoke about her double mastectomy, which she had in April. Katie explained that surgery cannot completely remove cancer for someone with stage 4 breast cancer. She said doctors consider stage 4 cancer a lifelong condition, but treatment can help manage it for many years.
Katie said she believes in future medical advances and is hopeful while waiting for the results of her latest PET scan. She explained that the Fourth of July holiday delayed the results, making the wait more stressful.
Earlier, Katie shared that recent scans showed no evidence of active cancer, but her doctors were concerned because her liver enzyme levels were high. She may need a biopsy to find out more.
Despite the uncertainty, Katie remains hopeful. She said that getting a scan with "no evidence of disease" is a very good day for her.
