Logan Marshall-Green Nearly Missed The Odyssey After Skipping Nolan Callback During L.A. Wildfires

Logan Marshall-Green has revealed he almost missed his role in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey after declining an in-person callback during the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in early 2025.

Speaking to Perri Nemiroff on Collider Forces, the actor said he initially auditioned on tape over Christmas 2024 and was invited to meet Nolan in January. However, with the fires affecting Los Angeles and people close to him directly impacted, he chose not to travel from his home in Charleston, South Carolina.

“It was a dream-come-true callback ... but I couldn’t do it,” Marshall-Green said.

Although he later regretted the decision, the opportunity unexpectedly returned two months later when actor Cosmo Jarvis exited the project. Nolan and producer Emma Thomas offered Marshall-Green the role with just 48 hours’ notice, sending him to Italy to join production.

Marshall-Green ultimately played Melanthius, Penelope’s disloyal servant who sides with the suitors against Odysseus. He said he would have accepted any role simply to experience working with Nolan, praising the director’s supportive set and the cast’s professionalism.

The actor also singled out Anne Hathaway for her “consistency and stamina,” saying he was impressed by her unwavering focus throughout demanding scenes.

The Odyssey opened to a strong $124.5 million domestically and $264 million worldwide in its debut weekend, positioning it for a place among the year’s biggest box office hits.
