Whoopi Goldberg Says Nolan's The Odyssey Shows 'The Stupidity of Men'

Whoopi Goldberg praised Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey while joking that its story highlights "the stupidity of men" during a Monday interview on The View with Nolan and stars Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway.

Reflecting on Homer's epic, Goldberg said the film resonated with today's world because its male characters repeatedly ignore warnings and suffer the consequences. She also said the story serves as a reminder of the devastating cost of war, adding that "no one wins in a war."

Goldberg reserved special praise for Hathaway's portrayal of Penelope, describing the character as a symbol of women's resilience and intelligence. She noted that Penelope outwits her suitors for two decades, demonstrating remarkable strength and cunning.

The film has opened to a record-breaking $264 million at the global box office, marking the biggest debut of Nolan's career and fueling early predictions of multiple Oscar nominations.

Damon also recalled filming the iconic Trojan Horse sequence, revealing that Nolan admitted he had "no idea" how he would shoot the cramped scene until the crew climbed inside the massive prop. Nolan said the team remained inside for hours to capture every shot before the cast could leave.
