Mario Lopez Responds to Claims About His Political Views

Mario Lopez is pushing back against online claims about his political affiliation after appearing in social media posts connected to the White House and UFC CEO Dana White.

According to BuzzFeed, Lopez responded in a since-deleted Instagram comment after he was featured in a video labeling him as a supporter of the MAGA movement.

“You need to get your facts straight,” Lopez wrote. He said he was in Washington, D.C., filming a CBS primetime special about a civics competition for children and did not attend the White House UFC event.

Lopez explained that he met with White because the UFC CEO is a friend. “I’m not a political person. Too divisive. I could care less about politics. I care about my family, my community, my culture, and my faith,” he wrote, adding, “Please don’t spread misinformation.”

The discussion followed an Instagram post in which Lopez said he stopped by to visit White while working in Washington ahead of a UFC event held on the White House grounds.

In a June 10 TikTok interview, Lopez also said he did not attend the fight because he was filming a movie in New York. When asked about President Donald Trump, he replied, “I don’t talk politics. It’s not my thing.”

Although Lopez has not publicly endorsed a political candidate, he described himself as “conservative” during a 2016 interview with then-presidential candidate Donald Trump for Extra. During that interview, Lopez identified himself as “a child of Mexican immigrants” and asked Trump how he planned to earn the trust of Hispanic voters after criticism of his campaign rhetoric. Trump responded by highlighting his relationships with Hispanic employees and customers and said his economic policies would create jobs for Hispanics and other Americans.
