Mia Sara Says Leaving Hollywood Led to a More Peaceful Life

Actress Mia Sara has largely stepped away from Hollywood and now enjoys a quieter life in Los Angeles focused on riding horses and writing poetry.

Speaking on The Slice of Life Show by Pete Ferriero podcast, the Ferris Bueller's Day Off star said she left acting after deciding she wanted a more peaceful life with her young son. She said the pressures of the entertainment industry had become too difficult.

Sara, who also starred in Legend with Tom Cruise, said horseback riding has become an important part of her life despite a serious fall several years ago. She said a horse ran off with her during a lesson, causing her to fall and briefly lose consciousness. Although she did not suffer a concussion, the experience left her with riding-related anxiety.

To overcome that fear, Sara decided to buy her own horse rather than give up riding.

She also shared that she recently learned her grandfather once wanted to buy her a horse when she was a child, but her father refused.

Reflecting on the experience, Sara said riding has taught her that it is okay not to be the best at something and that doing something simply because you love it can be rewarding.
