Mindy Kaling says she welcomes compliments, unlike some late-night hosts

Mindy Kaling says she enjoys receiving compliments, even though she learned early in her career that some late-night hosts preferred not to be praised.

Speaking on Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast, Kaling recalled being told before appearing on Late Show with David Letterman that she should not compliment the host because he was uncomfortable with it. She said the advice made her think praising talk show hosts was generally considered "not cool."

Kaling said she feels differently and would appreciate guests telling her they enjoy her work. Poehler agreed, saying she likes both giving and receiving compliments.

During the conversation, Kaling praised Poehler's podcast and said she regularly watches clips after her children are asleep.

The pair also discussed Kaling's new Hulu comedy, Not Suitable for Work, which premiered on June 2. Kaling described it as the final part of a trilogy that also includes Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls.

Kaling said the three series focus on ambitious underdogs seeking success in their personal and professional lives. She added that she aims to create funny, comforting shows that people can enjoy during difficult times.
