The national law firm Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani represented Minaj in a copyright infringement lawsuit filed in 2023. The case accused her of copying the beat for her 2014 song "I Lied." That lawsuit was settled privately in late 2024.
Now, the law firm says Minaj has not paid for its legal services. In a lawsuit filed in March 2026, the firm claims she owes $229,541 under the agreement she signed when hiring the lawyers.
According to court documents, the contract stated that lawyers would charge by the hour. Senior partners billed $650 per hour, while associates charged $425 per hour. The agreement also said Minaj was responsible for paying the legal fees regardless of whether she won or lost the case.
The firm says Minaj has not responded to the lawsuit. Because of this, it has asked the court for a default judgment, which could allow the judge to rule in the firm's favor without Minaj presenting a defense. A hearing on that request has been scheduled for September.
The law firm is also seeking additional legal costs. It says the contract allows the winning side in a collection lawsuit to recover attorney fees and court costs, meaning the amount Minaj owes could increase if the firm wins.
This is not the first time Minaj has faced legal issues involving unpaid money. Earlier this year, she paid a $500,000 judgment related to a lawsuit involving a concert security guard. She was also sued by a concert production company that claims she owes $275,000 for unpaid services.
At this stage, the allegations made by the law firm have not been proven in court, and Minaj has not publicly responded to the claims. A judge will decide the next steps at the upcoming September hearing.
