Tom Cruise Talks About Creating His New Movie Character

Tom Cruise has shared how he created the look and personality of his new character, Digger Rockwell, in the upcoming movie Digger. This is Cruise's first completely new movie role in many years outside of his famous action franchises.

Speaking at a Warner Bros. event in Burbank, Cruise said he spends a lot of time studying and observing before playing a character.

"My process is to keep absorbing everything," he said. "I want people to feel completely involved in the story."

Cruise explained that every part of a character is important. He thinks about the way the character moves, speaks, dresses, and even the makeup. He said he always asks himself how he can best show the character's personality to the audience.

For Digger, Cruise paid attention to many small details, including the color of the cowboy boots, the shorts, the movie sets, and the character's personal style. He also wore fake teeth, which helped him get into the role.

Cruise believes every character has its own unique rhythm and style. He said actors must find the right balance so the performance matches the movie's tone, whether it is funny, serious, or emotional.

He also praised director Alejandro González Iñárritu, saying the filmmaker helped shape the character's performance. Cruise said he prepares carefully by training and learning new skills so he has the freedom to explore the character while filming.

Calling acting "a lifelong journey of learning," Cruise said he is always trying to improve and discover new ways to bring characters to life.

Digger is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 2.
