Penélope Cruz Says She Is ‘Still Learning’ After 15 Years of Marriage to Javier Bardem

Penélope Cruz says her relationship with husband Javier Bardem continues to grow, even after more than 15 years of marriage.

Speaking during a recent PEOPLE in 10 interview while promoting her new film The Invite, Cruz said people never stop learning about themselves or their partners.

“I feel like I'm still learning,” she said. “I am with somebody that I've known for 33 years.”

She added that just as people continue to discover new things about themselves, the same is true in a long-term relationship.

Cruz and Bardem first met in 1992 while filming the Spanish movie Jamón Jamón, but they did not begin dating until they reunited for the 2008 film Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Bardem has previously said they were both hesitant to make the first move and only became a couple after the film’s wrap party.

The Oscar-winning actors married in a private ceremony in the Bahamas in 2010. They have two children: son Leo, born in 2011, and daughter Luna, born in 2013.

Bardem has said their relationship is strengthened by the fact that they knew each other before becoming internationally famous, giving them a strong foundation built on truly knowing one another.
