Pima County Sheriff's Department Warns of Scam Exploiting Nancy Guthrie Case

The Pima County Sheriff's Department has warned the public about a scam exploiting the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie by using QR codes to solicit money.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the department said it is aware of fraudulent social media posts requesting donations related to the investigation. Officials emphasized that the sheriff's department will never ask for money in connection with this or any other case.

Authorities urged the public not to send money to unknown individuals or scan QR codes requesting payment. They also encouraged people to report the scam and help spread awareness.

Nancy Guthrie has been missing since Feb. 1, when she was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona. As the search enters its fifth month, her daughter, Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, has continued to appeal for public assistance, saying her family remains desperate for answers.

The case has also been complicated by ransom letters sent to investigators. The FBI said some of the letters have been confirmed as fake, while others remain under investigation.

Anyone with information about Nancy Guthrie's disappearance is asked to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to her recovery or the arrest of those responsible.
