Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman Reflect on ‘Practical Magic’ Ahead of 4K Release

Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are looking back on Practical Magic as the 1998 film prepares for its first 4K UHD release on Aug. 25.

In an exclusive feature shared by Warner Bros. Entertainment with People, Bullock described her character, Gillian Owens, as fearless and self-assured, saying she admires the way Gillian embraces who she is. Kidman said Gillian accepts herself completely, even though she believes love is out of reach.

Bullock also praised Kidman, saying her co-star’s free-spirited and adventurous personality comes through in her performance.

Producer Denise Di Novi discussed the contrast between the film’s two sisters. She said Sally, played by Bullock, longs for lasting love but is left heartbroken after losing her husband, making her wary of magic. In contrast, Gillian sees magic as a gift and embraces it with joy.

Di Novi also credited Bullock with bringing emotional depth to Sally, saying audiences connected strongly with the character. She added that Bullock and Kidman had a natural chemistry on set, making their portrayal of sisters especially believable.

Practical Magic will be released on 4K UHD for the first time on Aug. 25 by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
