Neill’s family announced his unexpected death on July 13. They said he was free of cancer after being diagnosed in 2022 with stage 3 angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma. Earlier this year, Neill said scans showed no signs of cancer following chemotherapy and CAR T-cell therapy.
Best known for playing Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park films, Neill also appeared in The Piano, Event Horizon, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Peaky Blinders, and The Tudors. He recently completed several film projects that will be released in the coming months.
His family plans to hold a private memorial in New Zealand. They asked people who wish to honor Neill to donate to New Zealand charities that support hospitals, wildlife, and environmental conservation instead of sending flowers.
Neill is survived by his four children and eight grandchildren.
