Addressing criticism over the large security deployment, Mamdani said Swift had already paid more than $160,000 through a city permit that covered the event and the required police response. The couple obtained a permit to close streets around Madison Square Garden from July 2 to July 4 for their wedding celebrations.
Ahead of the ceremony, Swift and Kelce donated $26 million to 20 charities, including New York-based organizations such as City Harvest, Food Bank NYC, and New York Cares.
Mamdani, who had earlier revealed that a major event was planned in Manhattan over the Fourth of July weekend, said he was not invited to the wedding but wished the couple well.
The star-studded celebration reportedly cost between $20 million and more than $30 million. According to The Knot Worldwide, major expenses included an estimated $10 million to secure Madison Square Garden, $5 million for décor and florals, $3 million for catering, and at least $2 million for the couple’s Christian Dior Haute Couture wedding attire.
