Tom Holland says dyslexia has kept him from hosting Saturday Night Live

Tom Holland says his dyslexia has stopped him from hosting Saturday Night Live, despite being asked several times.

Speaking on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day star explained that reading cue cards during the live show is his biggest concern.

"I'm really dyslexic," Holland said. "I can read fine. But when I have to read out loud, it just becomes a mental block."

Holland revealed he recently told Sony's marketing team he was ready to host SNL while promoting Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, the plan did not happen because the show is on its summer break.

Seth Meyers encouraged Holland to take on the role and introduced him to Wally, the longtime cue card handler for Late Night and SNL, saying he would help make the experience easier.

Holland previously discussed the issue on Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast, where he said he enjoys the idea of hosting but worries about last-minute script changes that appear on cue cards. Poehler reassured him, joking that people have hosted the show "fully on drugs," adding, "So I think you can do it."

Actor Orlando Bloom has also said dyslexia once led him to turn down an SNL hosting offer, although he has since said he would now be happy to do it.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in cinemas on 31 July.
