Tomi Adeyemi says ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ film was painful experience

Author Tomi Adeyemi says the upcoming film adaptation of her bestselling novel Children of Blood and Bone became "the worst thing I have ever had to live through."

In a five-minute video posted Wednesday, Adeyemi said she experienced severe emotional and physical distress after visiting the film's set. She said she returned home "hyperventilating and sobbing" and later suffered panic attacks and intense physical pain. Adeyemi added that she is "still being antagonized behind the scenes."

Adeyemi, who co-wrote the screenplay, said senior people involved with the project were aware of her concerns but did not improve the situation. She said she decided to speak publicly because staying silent had made the experience more painful.

The author did not explain what happened on set or identify anyone responsible. She also said she does not want to discuss the project further and wants to move on.

Earlier this month, Adeyemi posted and later deleted a TikTok that appeared to show messages directed at actor Amandla Stenberg, telling the actor not to contact her or mention her publicly. The post fueled speculation about a disagreement, but Adeyemi has not confirmed the cause of any conflict.

Stenberg, who plays Princess Amari, has previously responded to criticism over her casting, saying she carefully considered the role and supports better representation of all skin tones in film.

Paramount's Children of Blood and Bone is scheduled to be released in theaters on Jan. 15.
