Aaron Pierre Draws James Bond Buzz After Lanterns Debut

Aaron Pierre’s performance as John Stewart in HBO’s Lanterns is already sparking a new conversation about who could become the next James Bond.

Henry Winkler added fuel to that discussion on Sunday when he posted on social media: “Aaron Pierre should be the next BOND.” The comment came after Winkler watched Pierre make his debut as rookie Green Lantern John Stewart.

In the early episodes of the 2026 series, Pierre has impressed viewers with a combination of confidence, charm and authority. His stylish look and commanding screen presence have also helped him stand out, leading some fans to imagine him taking on the iconic role of 007.

However, Lanterns co-star Kelly Macdonald hopes Pierre stays with the Green Lantern franchise for years to come. Macdonald, who plays Sheriff Kane, said she feels sorry for actors who are repeatedly linked to the Bond role.

“Saying yes to a Bond film is a big, big deal,” Macdonald told GamesRadar+. “Lots of people get thrown in the mix. It feels like every week there’s a new person.”

She added that Pierre “certainly could be” Bond, but said she would rather see him continue playing John Stewart.

Pierre himself was modest when asked about Winkler’s endorsement. He called the comment “an enormous compliment” and said he greatly appreciated the kind words.

The search for the next James Bond remains ongoing. Producer Amy Pascal has said the new 007 will be “different” and indicated that the actor is expected to be announced by the end of the year.

For now, Pierre appears focused on his role as John Stewart. He is already expected to return as the character in the upcoming 2027 film Man of Tomorrow.

Whether he eventually trades his Green Lantern ring for a license to kill remains unknown. But his performance in Lanterns has certainly given Bond fans another name to consider.
