Britney Spears Opens Up About Motherhood, Family and Years She Says She Lost

Britney Spears has opened up about her relationship with her parents, her sons and the difficult years she says shaped her life, sharing an emotional message on social media.

The pop star began the lengthy post with an old photograph of her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden, who are now adults. Spears said her parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, once took the boys to the beach without telling her.

“I wondered why I wasn’t a part of their cool secret outings,” Spears wrote. She said the experience left her feeling deeply hurt and claimed she spent two months crying over it.

Spears also described a conversation she had with one of her sons the previous week. She said he told her he did not personally believe in God and viewed religion through a scientific lens.

The conversation was particularly painful for Spears, who said she prays every day and believes strongly in the Holy Spirit.

“In that moment I believed I had failed as a mother,” she wrote. Spears then apologized to her children and others for what she described as mistakes she made in the past.

“I wanna to tell my kids and people in general that I’m sorry for my mistakes in the past,” she said.

The singer also reflected on her childhood and rise to fame. Spears became a star as a young performer on “The Mickey Mouse Club” before becoming one of the world’s biggest pop stars as a teenager.

Looking back, she said she never had the opportunity to fully discover who she was.

“I never got to be me, the real Spears,” she wrote.

Spears said she had once been highly intelligent, passionate and excited about life but felt that she had been pushed into a system in which other people took advantage of her.

“I miss the excitement in my eyes being alive when I was younger,” she wrote, recalling a time when she was “always so eager to please and hungry for life.”

She also recounted an incident involving her father that she said occurred after she became famous. According to Spears, Jamie Spears stopped her from going to a diner to eat a hamburger with a new friend after paparazzi noticed them.

“I was never allowed to see my friend again or go out to old fashioned hamburger diners,” she claimed. “If you know me I love food.”

Spears ended the post by reflecting on the years she believes she lost and acknowledged the pain of revisiting those memories.

She said she knows she can never get those years back, but felt it was important to speak about them.

“Because it’s honestly unbelievably sad,” Spears wrote.

Her latest comments add to her ongoing public reflections about her family, motherhood and the experiences she says affected her during her rise to fame and the years that followed.
