Sadie Sink Says She’s Being Kept Out of the Loop on X-Men Casting

Sadie Sink may know plenty about her mysterious Marvel character, Jean Grey, but she apparently knows very little about who will join her in the upcoming X-Men movie.

The actress, who stars in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, revealed that Marvel is keeping her “a little bit separate” from the casting process for the new X-Men team. That includes the search for Cyclops, Jean Grey’s longtime love interest in Marvel Comics.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Sink said she has been learning about the casting news directly from director Jake Schreier.

“So, I’m finding out through Jake,” Sink said. “There’s also so many online rumors, but it’s coming together.”

Her comments come as speculation continues over who will play Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops. Deadline recently reported that Heartstopper star Kit Connor has read for the role.

When Sink was asked about reports that Connor could play Cyclops, she appeared unaware of whether the casting was official.

“Did he? There’s always the rumors, and I just never know what’s official,” she said.

Sink’s involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become increasingly significant. Following the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, her character was revealed to be Jean Grey, one of Marvel’s most powerful mutants. Jean is known for her telepathic and telekinetic abilities and is one of the central figures in the X-Men story.

Marvel appears to be using Spider-Man: Brand New Day to introduce Jean before bringing the wider mutant team together in Schreier’s upcoming X-Men reboot. Sink said she believes the timing and strategy behind the introduction are particularly exciting.

“I think the timing of it is so exciting, and the way they planned it out is really clever just with introducing one of the mutants, a very important mutant through Spider-Man,” she said. “I think a great cast is coming together, and I think people are going to be really excited about it when it’s all announced.”

Casting for the new X-Men movie is still underway. Alongside the search for Cyclops, reports have said that Samara Weaving has been offered the role of Emma Frost.

For Sink, the Marvel project also marks the beginning of a new phase in her career after the conclusion of Stranger Things. The actress said she plans to film X-Men before moving on to The Marriage Plot, an upcoming series from FX and A24.

“We’ll shoot X-Men, and then I’m going to do a series with FX and A24 called The Marriage Plot, so that’ll be next year,” Sink said.

The end of Stranger Things will also bring a major change to Sink’s schedule after years of returning to Atlanta to film new seasons.

“With Stranger Things ending, it’ll feel weird next year not being like, ‘Oh wait, we got to shoot another season. We have to get ready to go back to Atlanta to shoot,’” she said. “It’s exciting to be able to have more room in the schedule.”

With Sink already introduced as Jean Grey and more casting decisions expected soon, Marvel’s new X-Men lineup is beginning to take shape. The identities of Cyclops, Emma Frost and the rest of the team are likely to remain closely guarded until Marvel is ready to make the announcements official.
