Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz Beckham Choose Vow Renewal Date as Their Anniversary

Brooklyn Peltz Beckham and Nicola Peltz Beckham are no longer celebrating the date of their first wedding anniversary. Instead, the couple is choosing to mark the anniversary of their vow renewal, a celebration they say represents happier memories of their relationship.

PEOPLE confirmed that Brooklyn, 27, and Nicola, 31, are not celebrating April 9, the date they first married in a lavish ceremony in Palm Beach, Florida, in 2022.

The decision reportedly comes because the couple associates their first wedding with painful memories. According to the Daily Mail, a source said the wedding was not an occasion the couple looks back on fondly and that Nicola was left in tears during the event.

“Brooklyn and Nicola’s first wedding in April 2022 is not an occasion they look back on fondly,” the source said. “Nicola ended up in tears. It’s not something they want to be reminded of.”

Instead, the couple has embraced Aug. 2 as their anniversary after renewing their vows on that date in 2025.

At the time, a source close to the couple told PEOPLE that the vow renewal was focused on celebrating their relationship and creating positive memories together.

“The event is about honoring the love and commitment they’ve built together over the years, and creating a memory that will stay with them forever,” the source said.

Earlier this week, Brooklyn and Nicola publicly marked one year since their vow renewal with affectionate Instagram posts.

“Happy anniversary Nicola,” Brooklyn wrote. “I can’t tell you how much I love you x you are my best friend and I love you more than life itself xx I am so lucky to be able to call you my wife xx you are my absolute princess and I promise to always protect you xx.”

Nicola responded by calling Brooklyn “my love” and thanking him for being the husband she had always dreamed of.

“You make life so beautiful. Thank you for being the most amazing husband I could ever dream of,” she wrote.

The couple’s decision to leave their original wedding date behind comes as their relationship with Brooklyn’s parents, David and Victoria Beckham, remains strained.

The family rift became increasingly public earlier this year when Brooklyn accused his parents of attempting to interfere with his marriage to Nicola. In a series of Instagram Stories shared in January, he claimed that his parents had repeatedly tried to damage his relationship with Nicola and had prioritized publicity and business opportunities.

Brooklyn also alleged that his parents tried to persuade him to give up rights to his name before the wedding. He further claimed that Victoria had taken over his first dance with Nicola at the ceremony.

“I do not want to reconcile with my family,” Brooklyn wrote at the time. “I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”

Victoria later addressed the family situation publicly, although she did not respond directly to Brooklyn’s specific allegations.

Speaking to WSJ. Magazine in April, she said the family had always tried to protect and support their children.

“I think that we’ve always — we love our children so much,” Victoria said. “We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be.”

She added that after more than 30 years in the public eye, the couple’s priority had always been their children.

“And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children,” she said. “And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it.”

For Brooklyn and Nicola, however, their vow renewal appears to have become the date they want associated with their marriage. By celebrating Aug. 2 instead of April 9, the couple is choosing to focus on the memories they say reflect their relationship today rather than the difficult moments surrounding their first wedding.
