Chris Hansen Calls Pattinson’s ‘Primetime’ Impression Good but ‘Overly Dramatic’

Chris Hansen says Robert Pattinson gives a convincing, if overly dramatic, impression of him in A24’s upcoming drama-thriller “Primetime.”

The film is inspired by Hansen’s work as the host of NBC’s “To Catch a Predator,” the series that confronted suspected sexual predators in undercover investigations.

“I think there is a pretty good imitation there in the trailer,” Hansen told Entertainment Tonight, adding that his wife and family also thought Pattinson’s portrayal was accurate. However, he noted that the character says and does things that he never did.

“He’s saying things I never said and doing things I never did, and that’s not who I am,” Hansen said. “I’m a nice guy, except when it comes to criminals and predators.”

Hansen also emphasized that “Primetime” is a work of fiction based on real events and should not be viewed as a literal account of his life.

The comments come after Hansen said he was unable to attend a private screening of the film at A24’s offices because he would not sign an agreement he claimed would give up rights related to his name, image and brand. A source close to A24 disputed that characterization, saying Hansen was asked to sign a standard nondisclosure agreement required of preview audiences for unreleased projects.
