Dolly Parton Dies at 80 After Cancer Battle

Country music legend Dolly Parton has died at 80 after a brief battle with cancer, according to a statement from her representatives. She died Tuesday at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Parton, whose career lasted seven decades, was known for hits including “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You.” She sold more than 100 million records worldwide and earned 11 Grammy Awards, along with numerous other honors.

Her representatives said Parton’s life was defined not only by music but also by her generosity. Her Imagination Library has provided hundreds of millions of books to children, while her philanthropic work has supported medical research and other causes.

Parton had spoken publicly about health problems in recent months. She postponed and later canceled a planned Las Vegas residency, saying she was undergoing medical treatment and working to rebuild her strength. She also missed a Dollywood event earlier this month because of dehydration.

Parton had faced additional personal difficulties following the death of her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, in 2025. She said grief and health problems had left her physically and emotionally worn down, but she remained committed to her work.

“Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience,” her representatives said. “Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.”
