The series, which has been in development since Amazon acquired MGM in 2022, will offer a new take on the popular sci-fi franchise. The story follows a giant technology company that persuades a city to add a powerful robot to its police force. The robot is implanted with the consciousness of a beloved police officer who died in the line of duty, played by Stevens.
Stevens is best known for “Downton Abbey” and the FX series “Legion.” His recent credits include “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” “Zero Day” and “Cuckoo.”
Peter Ocko will serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer. James Wan and other producers from Blumhouse Atomic Monster are also attached. Original “Robocop” creators Michael Miner and Ed Neumeier will executive produce.
Amazon MGM Studios will produce the series. The original “Robocop” film was released in 1987, starring Peter Weller as the half-human, half-machine police officer. The franchise has since expanded to sequels, a 2014 reboot, television series, video games and comics.
