Langley, whose song “Choosin’ Texas” has become a major country hit, shared a series of photos and videos on social media this week with the caption, “Ella Langley? What is that?” The comment appeared to reference remarks Doja Cat made on the “Sundae Conversation” podcast.
During the interview, Doja Cat was asked whether she was a fan of Langley. She replied, “I don’t know what that is,” before agreeing to listen to her music.
Doja Cat later addressed the comments during an Instagram Live session on Aug. 25. She said she does not care much for country music and that it does not appeal to her, while adding that Langley has “a very pretty voice.”
After listening to “Choosin’ Texas,” Doja Cat said the song was not her style but acknowledged that it was catchy and understood why it was successful.
Langley’s caption prompted mixed reactions online. Some fans joked about the exchange, while others defended Doja Cat and pointed to her own success in pop music.
Doja Cat has earned billions of streams, multiple multi-platinum songs and a Grammy Award with SZA for “Kiss Me More.”
Langley, meanwhile, has continued to make history with “Choosin’ Texas,” which has reportedly spent 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the longest-running No. 1 hit by a female country artist.
