Hilary Duff Honors Late Ex Aaron Carter During Philadelphia Concert

Hilary Duff paid tribute to her late ex-boyfriend Aaron Carter during a recent stop on her “Lucky Me” tour, keeping alive the memory of a singer who was an important part of her teenage years.

Duff, 38, honored Carter during her Philadelphia concert on Sunday, Aug. 9, by wearing a white graphic T-shirt featuring a photo of Carter as a child. Fans captured the moment and shared it on social media.

Carter died in November 2022 at age 34. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later ruled his death accidental, saying he drowned after inhaling difluoroethane and taking alprazolam.

Duff and Carter dated from 2001 to 2004, when they were both young stars. Carter also appeared in a 2001 episode of Duff’s Disney Channel series “Lizzie McGuire.”

Duff has spoken about Carter several times since his death. In an April appearance on the “Las Culturistas” podcast, she described an unusual experience involving a psychic who she said claimed to have been contacted by someone named Aaron.

According to Duff, the psychic told her that people would begin showing up for her, including “an Aaron with two As.”

“I was like, ‘Oh my God. Is it Aaron Carter?’” Duff recalled. “And she’s like, ‘Sure is. What the hell is he doing here?’”

Duff said the psychic then realized who she was.

“And she’s like, ‘Are you Hilary Duff?’” she recalled.

Duff also said she remains close to Carter’s sister, Angel Carter. The two families have a connection because their children attend the same school.

“I’m friends with Aaron Carter’s sister still, Angel,” Duff said. “Our kids go to the same school. She’s a lovely literal angel of a person. We’re very close. We talk about Aaron often.”

After Carter’s death, Duff shared an emotional tribute on Instagram. She expressed sympathy for the struggles he faced publicly and remembered the charm he had as a young performer.

“I am deeply sorry that life was so hard and that you had to struggle in front of the whole world,” Duff wrote at the time. “You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent.”

“Boy, did my teenage self love you deeply,” she added. “Sending love to your family at this time. Rest easy.”

Duff is now married to musician Matthew Koma. The couple married in December 2019 and have continued to build their family together.

Her tribute to Carter in Philadelphia offered another reminder of the long history the two shared, from their teenage romance and years in the spotlight to the grief Duff has expressed since his death.

The “Lucky Me” tour is scheduled to continue through February 2027.
