The 41-year-old rapper was scheduled to perform at Golden 1 Center. The venue said the concert was canceled following the death of a crew member in a trucking accident.
The crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. on Interstate 5 in Yolo County, northwest of Woodland, according to the California Highway Patrol. Authorities said an overturned big rig carrying equipment for Cole’s tour was driven by the victim. No other vehicles were involved.
The Yolo County Coroner’s Office identified the driver as 66-year-old Jarlath Parkinson of South Carolina. CHP said the truck drifted onto the shoulder, and the driver lost control while trying to return to the roadway. Authorities said it was not yet known whether distraction or fatigue played a role.
The Sacramento concert was part of Cole’s Fall-Off World Tour, which is scheduled to continue with more than 40 dates through Dec. 12.
Cole is still scheduled to perform in Oakland on Aug. 30 and at two Los Angeles-area venues on Sept. 1 and Sept. 3.
Fans who bought Sacramento tickets through Ticketmaster will receive automatic refunds. Other ticket holders can request refunds from the original point of purchase.
