Cameron will play Gwen Sharpe, a jury consultant who becomes a confidant for Olivia Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay. SVU showrunner Michele Fazekas told TVLine that Benson needs someone outside her workplace who can offer a different perspective and serve as a sounding board.
Cameron is expected to appear at least three times during the upcoming season.
The new season will also feature Ice-T, Peter Scanavino, Kelli Giddish, Kevin Kane, Aimé Donna Kelly and Corey Cott. Ice-T previously confirmed that he will return for every episode as Fin Tutuola after having a smaller role last season.
The actor said his reduced screen time was related to budget changes following Giddish’s return as Amanda Rollins. Ice-T said he understood the decision and added that, after 27 seasons, he is not concerned about getting more screen time.
Law & Order: SVU returns to NBC for its 28th season on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 9 p.m. ET.
