The Grammy-winning singer had just finished performing “Golden Hour” when a shower of sparks appeared to ignite part of the venue’s overhead structure. Musgraves stopped the show and looked up at the flames.
“That looks bad. Genuinely, something’s on fire,” she joked. She then added, “I have way too much hairspray to be standing under that s–t.”
Musgraves continued to joke about the situation, calling the fire “cute” while admitting it was giving her “anxiety.” She also quipped, “I only like pyro when I know what’s going to happen,” before asking whether anyone had a “bedazzled fire extinguisher.”
Video of the incident circulated on TikTok, prompting fans to share jokes about the unexpected flames. One commenter called it a “slow burn,” while another joked about Musgraves continuing to stand beneath the fire. The flame reportedly went out on its own after about three minutes.
The incident occurred during Musgraves’ “Middle of Nowhere” tour, which began in Chicago last week. The tour has attracted attention for its elaborate production, including giant floating disco balls used during the opening shows.
This is not Musgraves’ first unusual concert incident. In 2024, she confronted a fan in Tampa, Florida, after the person allegedly grabbed her while she was walking through the audience.
Musgraves has 31 shows remaining on the current tour, which is scheduled to conclude in the United Kingdom in February.
