The 53-year-old actress shared a series of Instagram Stories on Aug. 8 showing comments from people criticizing her body. One commenter accused her of using Ozempic and said she looked “anorexic,” while another told her to gain weight.
Beckinsale said her recent weight loss was linked in part to grief following the deaths of her mother, Judy Loe, in 2025, and her stepfather, Roy Battersby, in 2024. She also pointed to her diagnosis of mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), a condition that can cause allergy-like symptoms and other health problems.
“I’ve lost my entire family, except my precious daughter, in a short amount of time,” Beckinsale said in a recently deleted video about the condition. She said her stomach is a major source of her MCAS symptoms and urged people to be more careful about commenting on others’ bodies.
The actress later expressed regret about posting the video, saying she had hoped to raise awareness about MCAS but felt she may have been the wrong person to do so. She also said severe acid reflux during a flare-up can affect her voice.
When one commenter asked whether she would like to gain weight, Beckinsale replied, “Yes, very much.”
She also explained why she had removed her Instagram posts, telling one commenter that they would not hear her speak again and that she planned to leave only recommended books on her account.
Beckinsale has previously denied having Botox or fillers and has discussed how her health condition has affected her appearance and treatment options.
