Kevin McHale Condemns ‘Glee Curse’ Claims After Fans Revive Myth

Kevin McHale has criticized social media users for claiming that Glee was "cursed" following the deaths of several cast members, calling the comments disrespectful and inhumane.

In a post on X, McHale wrote that describing the deaths of real people as a "sacrifice" or part of a "curse" linked to a TV show was "diabolical" and disconnected from reality.

Many users supported McHale's remarks, saying the "curse" narrative is insensitive and should not continue.

The rumor has circulated for years after the deaths of Glee stars Cory Monteith, Mark Salling, and Naya Rivera. Monteith died of a heroin overdose in 2013 at age 31. Salling died by suicide in 2018 at age 35 after pleading guilty to possessing child sexual abuse material and before his sentencing. Rivera died in an accidental drowning in 2020 at age 33.

McHale has previously said that he and other Glee cast members cope with the loss of their friends through dark humor in private, explaining on a 2023 podcast that it is a way of dealing with an experience only they truly understand.
