During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, Stewart opened up about working with Meyer on the upcoming comedy The Wrong Girls. The film was written and directed by Meyer and marks her directorial debut, with Stewart starring in the project.
“Making something with somebody is my favorite form of intimacy,” Stewart told host Jimmy Fallon. She explained that when a movie comes together well, making it can feel like “an act of love.”
For Stewart, that makes working with the people closest to her feel natural.
“So it makes complete and total sense for me to work with my closest friends and family,” she said.
Fallon asked whether anyone had tried to convince Stewart not to work with her wife. Stewart, who described herself as an “exceptionally demanding and direct person,” quickly made her feelings clear.
“I was just like, ‘You’re going to make the movie without me? No,’” she recalled.
Stewart also praised Meyer’s creative vision, especially her work on the film’s soundtrack, and affectionately described her wife as a “cool girl.”
The couple’s professional partnership comes after years of romance. Stewart and Meyer began dating in 2019, following Stewart’s previous relationships with model Stella Maxwell and actor Robert Pattinson, among others.
After about two years together, Meyer proposed in November 2021. Stewart later said on The Howard Stern Show that she had wanted to be proposed to and that Meyer “nailed it.”
The couple eventually married in Los Angeles in April 2025 at the Casita Del Campo restaurant. Their wedding was attended by several celebrity friends, including Ashley Benson.
Meyer later shared a photo of the couple embracing at the altar, writing, “I do. I really really really really really do.”
Now, with The Wrong Girls, Stewart and Meyer are taking their relationship into another chapter: building something together on screen and behind the camera.
