Phil Jamieson Cancels Australian Tour After Fracturing Back During Concert

Australian singer Phil Jamieson has canceled his upcoming tour after suffering a fractured back when he slipped onstage during a concert in Victoria.

Jamieson, 49, the former frontman of rock band Grinspoon, said he was performing on Friday, Aug. 7, when he slipped and his spine hit the drum riser. The injury forced him to stop the show and he was taken by ambulance to Latrobe Hospital.

In an Instagram post shared Monday, Aug. 10, Jamieson said doctors carried out several tests and confirmed that he had fractured his L1 vertebra, a bone in the lower back.

“I spent most of Friday in emergency getting different tests etc and by 4am I was confirmed to have fractured my L1 (lower back guy), with a prescription of bed rest and a long road to recovery,” he wrote.

The injury means Jamieson is unable to perform for the time being, forcing him to cancel his Australian tour.

“This means, sigh, that the tour is cancelled :(,” he told fans. “No-one is more bummed about this than me, but I can’t stand up let alone play a gig at the moment.”

Jamieson said venues and ticketing agencies would contact ticket holders about refunds.

The injury has also forced him to cancel the launch party for his new album, “10Charlie,” which was scheduled for release on Aug. 14.

Despite the setback, Jamieson encouraged fans to listen to the new record.

“If you feel like wrapping your earholes around it, I would be grateful. Lots of work went into it and I love it,” he wrote.

Fans quickly filled the comments with messages of support and wishes for a speedy recovery. Jamieson later thanked everyone who had contacted him and offered help.

He also praised the staff at Latrobe Hospital for the care he received, giving special thanks to his paramedics, Renae and James, and his discharge nurse, Andrew.

“I hope to see you all soon. Love, PJ in my pjs for the foreseeable future x,” he wrote.

Jamieson had been scheduled to perform across Australia through Sept. 1, according to Nine News. His website now lists no upcoming tour dates.

For now, the singer faces a period of rest and recovery as he recovers from the injury.
