Kristen Stewart’s Wife Says Actress Was ‘Miscast’ as a Teen Idol

Kristen Stewart’s wife, Dylan Meyer, says she was surprised by how different the actress was from the public image she had developed during her years as a Hollywood teen star.

Meyer recently told PEOPLE that when she first met Stewart, she thought, “I can’t believe anyone ever let this person be a teen idol.” She jokingly described Stewart as a “deadbeat like me” and said she felt the actress had been “miscast” as a teen idol.

Meyer’s comments were meant affectionately. Stewart became one of the world’s biggest young stars after playing Bella Swan in the hugely successful Twilight movies, beginning with the first film in 2008 when Stewart was 18.

Even before Twilight, Stewart had built an impressive acting career. She appeared alongside Jodie Foster in the 2002 thriller Panic Room and later starred in Into the Wild in 2007.

Stewart and Meyer first met while working on the 2015 film American Ultra, which also starred Jesse Eisenberg and Connie Britton. Although they immediately liked each other, they did not begin a relationship until years later.

“At the time we just thought each other were really rad,” Meyer said. “Six or seven years went by, then we were falling in love.”

Stewart has also spoken openly about how quickly she fell for Meyer. During a 2019 appearance on The Howard Stern Show, she recalled seeing Meyer again at a friend’s birthday party after not seeing her for six years.

“Literally, the day that I met her, it was like all bets were off,” Stewart said.

She also pointed out how much they had in common, saying they were both from Los Angeles, loved the city and had felt like “trolls” when they were younger. Stewart praised Meyer as a talented writer and called her “brilliant.”

The couple married in April 2025. They have since also worked together professionally on The Wrong Girls, a new stoner comedy written and directed by Meyer, with Stewart starring alongside Alia Shawkat, Cate Blanchett and LaKeith Stanfield.

Stewart recently praised Meyer’s approach to directing, saying she has a “beautiful, delicate, gentle, inviting ability” to make people feel that a project belongs to them.

“She was so much fun to make this movie” Stewart said of working with Meyer.

The Wrong Girls is currently in theaters.
