Collins, now 41, told People that customers often recognized him while he was working the cash register and were surprised he had a regular job. He said many people assume child actors earn a lot of money, but that was not his experience.
Collins said he left acting because he wanted a more normal life, including attending high school, playing sports, and spending time with friends. He also wanted to change the relationship with his mother, who had managed his acting career.
Now working behind the scenes in Hollywood as a camera operator, Collins has launched the podcast The Not So Little Rascals with former co-star Jordan Warkol. The show features interviews with former child actors, many of whom share different experiences with how their earnings were managed by their families.
Collins said being a child actor involved long days, frequent auditions, and constant travel, making it a demanding lifestyle.
