Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s Mother Says Estate Dispute Reaches Settlement for Granddaughter

Pamela Warner, the mother of late actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, says she has reached a settlement with representatives for her granddaughter over the actor’s estate. The agreement still needs court approval.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for “The Cosby Show,” died at 54 in an accidental drowning while vacationing in Costa Rica on July 20, 2025. Since his death, his mother and his widow, Tenisha Warner, have been involved in legal disputes over his estate.

Pamela, who was also her son’s longtime business manager, denied claims that she tried to prevent his 9-year-old daughter from receiving financial support. In a statement, she said Malcolm had made provisions for his wife and daughter worth millions of dollars outside a family trust.

Pamela said the proposed settlement would give Malcolm’s daughter the majority of the remaining trust and estate. She also said the agreement recognizes the importance of a relationship between the child and her grandmother.

Tenisha has said she tried to resolve the estate privately before filing legal action. She claimed Malcolm intended to update an estate plan created in 1996, before their marriage and their daughter’s birth. She also alleged that he had agreed to obtain a $1 million life insurance policy for her under their 2022 premarital agreement but never did so.

Tenisha has said she is owed more than $1.27 million and has been caring for their daughter as a single parent. A friend has also started a GoFundMe campaign seeking $150,000 to help support Tenisha and her daughter.

Both sides have publicly emphasized their concern for Malcolm’s daughter. Pamela said she hopes the settlement will allow the child to receive the full benefit of her father’s legacy without further delay.
