Meghan McCain Criticizes Harry and Meghan Amid Reports of Possible UK Return

Meghan McCain is once again criticizing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle amid reports that the couple could spend more time in the United Kingdom after stepping back from royal duties in 2020.

McCain, the former co-host of “The View,” shared her latest comments on X earlier this week while linking to a PEOPLE report about the couple.

McCain questioned whether Harry and Meghan would be welcomed by Americans and suggested that their return to the UK could be more appropriate.

She ended her post by wishing people in Britain well and saying that the couple would now be “your problem.”

McCain has been publicly critical of Harry and Meghan for several years. Much of her criticism has focused on Meghan and her projects since leaving royal life.

In 2025, McCain criticized Meghan’s Netflix series “With Love, Meghan,” which features the Duchess of Sussex sharing lifestyle advice, recipes and entertaining ideas with celebrity guests.

McCain said she found the program uninteresting and said she preferred celebrities whose lives felt more relatable to her. She also criticized what she described as Meghan’s repeated changes in direction.

Earlier in 2025, McCain said she had once supported Meghan because she considered her “cool, stylish and refreshing.” She said her opinion later changed after Harry and Meghan stepped away from their roles as working members of the royal family.

McCain’s views on the British monarchy have, however, been more complicated than her criticism of Harry and Meghan might suggest.

During a 2021 episode of “The View,” McCain strongly criticized the institution of monarchy while discussing Meghan and Oprah Winfrey’s interview with the duchess.

“Monarchies are stupid, the American experiment is the way to go,” McCain said at the time. She also praised Meghan and Winfrey for challenging traditional ideas surrounding the British royal family.

McCain has continued to comment on the royal family since leaving “The View” in 2021. She later wrote for the British newspaper the Daily Mail.

Her latest remarks highlight the complicated relationship McCain has had with both Meghan and the monarchy: while she has repeatedly criticized Harry and Meghan, she has also previously questioned the institution they once represented.
