Naomi Watts to Receive San Sebastián Film Festival’s Donostia Award

British actress Naomi Watts will receive the prestigious Donostia Award at the 74th San Sebastián Film Festival in Spain this September.

Watts will accept the award on Sept. 19, when the festival will also screen The Housewife, the directorial debut of Canadian filmmaker Ben Shirinian. The film stars Watts alongside Tye Sheridan, Luke Evans, Michael Imperioli and Lena Olin.

Set in 1964 and based on a true story, The Housewife follows a young journalist who investigates a suspected former Nazi officer secretly living in New York and develops a friendship with his wife.

Watts, who began her career in Britain before finding international success, became widely known for her performance in David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive. She has received two Academy Award nominations, for 21 Grams and The Impossible, and has worked with filmmakers including Peter Jackson, David Cronenberg and Clint Eastwood.

She joins German director Werner Herzog, who was previously announced as another Donostia Award recipient.

The San Sebastián Film Festival will take place from Sept. 18 to 26.
