During an episode of Jay Shetty’s podcast “On Purpose” released Monday, Aug. 17, the actress and singer recalled the frightening moment she discovered the damage.
“I blew a hole through my nose, which is public knowledge,” Jackson, 28, said. She explained that the condition is a perforated septum rather than a deviated septum, meaning there is an actual opening in the tissue separating her nostrils. She said the hole is large enough that she can see through her nose and that it causes a noticeable whistling sound when she breathes.
Jackson remembered being terrified when she first realized what had happened.
“There’s blood everywhere. I looked in my mirror, and I saw it,” she recalled.
A doctor told Jackson that the damage was consistent with snorting drugs, including cocaine and ketamine. He also warned her that surgery would not solve the problem if she continued using drugs.
“There’s only so many reconstructive surgeries we can do,” Jackson recalled the doctor telling her. “So if you’re not done [doing drugs], I wouldn’t bother yet.”
At the time, Jackson admitted, she was not ready to stop.
The singer first publicly discussed her perforated septum in a TikTok video in November 2025. In the video, she demonstrated the opening and explained that it was different from a deviated septum. She also joked about the unusual whistling sound she makes when breathing through her nose.
But Jackson has also been candid about the serious consequences of her addiction. She said drug use “ruined my life” and urged others not to follow the same path.
Jackson said she had been living with the perforation since she was about 20. Despite being sober for six years, she has not pursued reconstructive surgery because the procedure would require medication during recovery, something she has been reluctant to undergo.
With her past addiction now behind her, Jackson continues to discuss her experience publicly as part of her sobriety journey.
The “Teenage Drama” singer is also preparing to release her sophomore album, “Happiest Day of My Life,” on Aug. 21.
